My stance on copyright in the world of today is that there should be freedom of knowledge and information; writing that furthers knowledge and education should not be copyrighted, nor should inventions which help further mankind. There are too many restrictions which come about through patenting and copyright, which hinder growth, and ultimately profit; new profits can be made off of information gained, however, when information is with-held, progress becomes static, and while there is some profit made, less is made in the long run, but in monetary means and technilogical. Such an example would be Jonas Salk, inventor of the polio vaccine, who refused to patent the vaccine, in turn saving countless lives and furthering society's advancement by not having to deal with polio.
